The Sun Oven Cookbook, Original Edition. This book was originally published in 2021 and served as the primary Sun Oven cookbook until the release of the 2nd (Off-Grid) Edition in late 2024.
More than a decade ago, a dedicated member of the Sun Ovens International, Inc. (SOI) team set herself a bold challenge: use a Sun Oven every single day for an entire year.
She documented the experience in the form of a personal diary - experimenting, learning, and developing an incredible collection of recipes along the way. That archive later became the Original Sun Oven Cookbook, a beloved resource for thousands of solar-cooking enthusiasts.
In 2024, the original cookbook was discontinued due to the rising costs of traditional printing. Due to the size of the book (400 pages) and because the book had full-color photographs on every recipe page, the cost to print it became prohibitive.
As a result, we changed the format to black & white and now offer these exclusively on Amazon.com. Why? Because Amazon can print to order at a better price than we can get them printed ourselves.
What's different between this book and today's Sun Oven Cookbook 2nd Edition?
The current book, which I call the "Off Grid Edition" or "2nd Edition" contains recipes that need no other electric appliances. The recipes can be made off-grid. In some cases, we recommend something with fire, like a grill, to sear meats.
The original cookbook is a combination of off-grid and everyday-home recipes. That means that in some cases, you'll want other appliances like a blender, food processor, and so on. In short, you need electricity for many of them.
